CalBank Wins Maiden Bank of Ghana eCedi Hackathon

CalBank, represented by the esteemed team ‘Forward Titans’, has emerged victorious in the maiden Bank of Ghana eCedi Hackathon, securing the top spot in a competition that showcased groundbreaking innovations aimed at revolutionizing Ghana’s financial landscape. The eCedi Hackathon, a 12-week intensive innovation challenge, was organized by the Bank of Ghana in collaboration with EMTECH Solutions Inc., drawing participation from 88 groups worldwide.

The eCedi Hackathon was designed as a platform for FinTechs, developers, and innovators to channel their expertise towards exploring the potential applications of eCedi, Ghana’s Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). This event was a testament to fostering innovation, driving technological advancement, and crafting solutions poised to reshape the future of finance in Ghana.

With a focus on enhancing financial accessibility, efficiency, and transparency, the event proved to be an immersive and competitive forum that brought together some of the brightest minds in the fintech landscape. The goal was to harness the power of eCedi, offering solutions that could potentially transform offline transactions and bolster financial inclusion across the country.

CalBank’s victory was secured through the presentation of a range of innovative solutions by that stood out amidst stiff competition. These groundbreaking ideas included the development of offline eCedi wallets, transaction tokens, agent networks, and mobile applications. Each solution aimed at addressing critical challenges within the financial sector, particularly focusing on facilitating offline transactions and advancing the cause of financial inclusivity in Ghana.

Speaking on their victory, Mr. Emmanuel Charles Jnr Annoh (Unit Head, Automation & Development, CalBank) expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to participate and showcase their innovative solutions. He emphasized the team’s commitment to leveraging technology to drive impactful changes in the financial landscape, ensuring greater accessibility and efficiency for all.

This victory stands as a testament to our dedication to leveraging technology to create meaningful and accessible financial solutions for all,” Edem Quintin Dzorkpata, FinTech Specialist, CalBank, also remarked.

The team members, including Edem Quintin Dzorkpata, Emmanuel Charles Annoh Jnr, Divine Delivere Okyere, Mathias Kofi Bassaw, Joseph Yeboah Boadi, Isaac Amoako Adjei, Stephen Lord Kinful, Kennedy Hayford, Douglas Kokro, played pivotal roles in this victory.

The eCedi Hackathon not only highlighted the immense potential of Ghana’s CBDC but also underscored the significance of collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors in driving innovation.
