CalBank PLC undertakes Fire Simulation Exercise at its Derby Avenue Branch.

CalBank PLC in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service and the National Ambulance Service have conducted a fire simulation exercise on Thursday, 6th July 2023at its Derby Avenue Branch to test the readiness of the bank’s staff and systems in the event of a fire.

The drill formed part of the Bank’s Business Continuity Program (BCP).

It was also in fulfilment of regulatory and international safety requirements and standards on institutional preparedness and evacuation mechanisms for fire. Due to the human and vehicular traffic, the National Fire Service and Ambulance Service arrived on time.

The fire and emergency alarm of the CalBank Derby Avenue Branch in Accra went off at 10:05 am on Thursday, July 6th, 2023. The personnel from the fire service arrived on time to commence the exercise.

During the exercise, artificial smoke was created, and hydraulic ladders were released by the fire service to evacuate staff. Fire marshals of the Bank successfully led the evacuation of staff to the fire assembly points and a headcount of staff was taken to ensure all staff were accounted for.

Speaking after the fire simulation exercise, Head of Risk Management, Sadiq Arthur noted that, “As part of our Business Continuity plans, it is crucial that we regularly educate our staff on our fire protocols and procedures to enable them respond in the event of a fire.”

Branch Manager, Alberta Taylor expressed excitement at the response of the staff and customers to the emergency alarm.

She assured that the Bank will remain committed to ensuring the safety of its staff and customers and will continue to take proactive measures to prepare for any emergency.
